Relaxed Outdoor Wedding at Camp Fortune
I met Valerie & Stéphane at the Experimental Farm Greenhouse in Ottawa for their engagement session. and right away I knew we were going to get along just fine. Valerie was wearing a shear pink skirt with embroidered flowers all over it and a brown leather jacket with these tiny black slip on shoes. Awesome style! When I suggested we hop over to where the grass was showing (it was early spring) she jumped right over the snowbank! We had so much fun and I was super pumped to document their wedding day.
We wanted cheerful, colourful décor so we chose a “sunset” palette. Navy, pink, orange and yellow for some nice pop in what is already a naturally, beautiful wooden ski cabin.

Valerie knows fashion and I wasn’t surprised to see her sporting an awesome pink chiffon skirt with a white, long-sleeved lace top on her wedding day. Her earrings from Lost Thread Weaving totally perfected her boho bride look.
Valerie & her girls made this awesome backdrop of brightly coloured origami swans for their photobooth.
We hung out at the Museum of Nature with Stéphane and the guys and yeah it was crazy and fun. Shot a few portraits ran around a park in Ottawa, got approached by some strangers who wanted them to pose with a Barbie doll…typical groom shots 😉
Next we headed to Camp Fortune for their relaxed outdoor wedding ceremony on the large deck beside the ski lodge and it was absolutely perfect with laughs and tears in all the right places.
The proposal: We had talked about it awhile before but then we planned a little getaway trip to Montreal close to our 1 year anniversary. I wouldn’t have expected anything BUT then when he was showing me something on his phone all the other screens he had open popped up…including a picture of a ring that he sent his mom! He didn’t play it cool. He freaked out, got really embarrassed and then I knew it was coming…

We were in Montreal two full days just exploring, eating good food when at night, at the Airbnb as I was gazing into his eyes he exclaimed “I feel like you’re impatiently waiting for me to pop the question!” . I told him I was really just enjoying the moment and I really was. He said it was probably just him getting nervous. Then he said “good, cause I have an idea for tomorrow night”… 30 seconds pass . Val: “tomorrow night?!” Steph: “Or we can go for a walk now…” It’s like 11pm at this point, we’ve walked all day so I said I’ll wait until tomorrow. Another 30 seconds later… Val: “well now I’m patiently waiting! Can you just put me out of my misery!?” Steph: “Really? Okaaayy. Close your eyes. ” And he took me in front of the Airbnb fireplace, gave a really nice speech, got down on one knee and offered me my beautiful green sapphire ring. So ya, just like a fairy tale 😉

Yes to bubbles for an epic ceremony exit!
Shout out to Flower to the People for creating this stunning bouquet. I love the blue Sea Holly’s mixed with the pink peonies!
The desserts were so delicious and this super cute one tier wedding cake by The Cake Shop matched the relaxed wedding vibes perfectly.
We really wanted the day to be a reflection of us so we made many of the decorations ourselves and chose a more casual venue (the bonfire was a real selling feature!) where there was room to relax, chat and dance the night away.
