Casey & I started off the day at Meech Lake with Chris and the boys. Just as we arrived, they were getting ready for their morning swim. What an excellent way to freshen up for the big day and it made for some awesome pics!

Chris and I had many mutual friends for years but had never had the fortune of meeting. He was living abroad for a number of years and we were both in relationships. In 2015, he returned home and, both single, we began courting one another. Soon after that we went on our first date. From then on, we were pretty inseparable and by January, we had moved in together.

Later we drove over to Vanier to see Callie & the girls. They were just finishing up with hair and makeup and then we took a few casual portraits before heading over to the Rideau Hall Grounds to meet up with the rest of the friends and family.

Chris proposed to me on a Monday in April. We both have very different work schedules so first thing in the morning is kind of our time. We are slow to get out of bed and often enjoy a latte together before starting the day. We reflect on our hopes, dreams, what we are grateful for and set intentions for our respective days. Knowing how special and important our mornings are to us, Chris proposed bed side on a rainy Monday morning. It was perfect — we felt so rebellious being out for brunch on a Monday morning while everyone hustled to work.

Next it was time for the outdoor ceremony at Jackson restaurant in the Ottawa Art Gallery.

We wanted the day to feel special but not stuffy. We placed the most importance on the things that really mattered to us; the things that would make the experience special. We opted for casual elements to balance out some of our more traditional choices and favoured enabling connection points over a structured run of show. It’s why we opted for small bites and no sit down dinner and optimized the venue programming to encourage a seamless flow through the space. From the bar to the dance floor and out in to the warm August air on the patio, we wanted guests to feel comfortable moving through the various settings.

Everyone was so excited to see Chris & Callie walk down the aisle!

After the ceremony we gathered inside Jackson for some snacks, drinks and heart-felt speeches that had everyone wiping away tears and smiling. This was one of those weddings where you can feel all of the positive energy towards this amazing couple. We were so happy to be there documenting it! xo
